I arrived in Dubrovnik by bus, from Montenegro, at the bus terminal near the ferry point.
Waiting to greet the passengers were, mainly women, also a couple, man and wife. The couple were holding a sign
"Sobe"which i knew ment Rooms. I asked them where was their house, the answer was near the Minceta Tower. So they took me in their car.The Sobe was up a flight of steps , nearly at the tower. The room was self contained ,with a kitchen. There was a shop nearby so i cooked my own breakfast and evening meal. On the veranda a place for laundry.------------It was great in a morning to be at the entrance to the
city.-----Dubrovnk is on the Adriatic Sea. In 1991 after the breakup of Yugoslavia, Dubrovnik was besieged by Montenegrin and Serbian soldiers for seven months, with much damage from shelling. At the Minceta Tower is a map of places bombed.
The city wall is a good place to walk and see the medieval city, there is an admission charge.
The old town is pedestrianised. The main street is called Stradun. ---DUBROVN[IK CROATIA.. Sobe [rooms

----------I left Dubrovnik for Split by Jadrolija Ferry, taking about 5 hours. 165km, by road it about 229km. Arriving at Split the same procedure, with women with Sobe signs. Split is a blend of Ancient and Modern. in the region of Dalmatia on the Adriatic coast. The main attraction is the Roman Diocletian Palace. It was built by the Roman Emperor in AD 305. I climbed to the top of the Bell Tower of the Cathedral, great view. There is a huge statue of Bishop Gregory in Giardin Park. Riva is a nice promenade by the waterside.SPLIT CROATIA.
